It's Not Easy

So this is my first post in my new (online) running journal. Have a lot of people rooting for me out there and thought this was a better update than quick little status updates on Facebook.

The US 10k Classic is one week from today! I'm absolutely stoked. Ran it last year, since it was my 10 year anniversary of the first time I ran it. Am looking to beat my time of 79 minutes - we'll see. ;)  Would really like to beat my time as an 18 year old (69 minutes). Mostly just want to go out there and have fun. It's by far my favorite race ever. (The relaxing at White Water after isn't too bad either)

I ran 3.1 miles tonight. Just going easy now until the big day. Don't want to injure anything this close. Just plan on running 3-4 miles this week up until the race and taking it easy. I am just so excited beyond words. I ran 6.2 miles last night and felt pretty good. This week is going to go by so fast. :)

So I ran this race last year and this year will be my 4th time running it over all - why am I so excited? Well, this is like a new beginning for me. First, this day will mark the end of the best and the worst year I've had so far. I had to go through a neat little medical journey. Had no idea how dangerous sinus infections could be and had no idea how sick I was. I had to have surgery and have felt like a totally different person ever since. I'm not completely finished with doctor visits or medications, but I feel my energy returning to me more and more each day. I'm grateful for each and every day and want to make the most of them. I think the human body is an amazing healing machine and am amazed by the triumph of the human spirit.

I had planned to run the Half-Marathon this year anyways, before everything happened. This year will be the 10th anniversary of when I ran my first one. The sinus issues just put me a little behind schedule... actually, am right on schedule now. It just makes me overjoyed, not only to be trying this again - but to be doing this despite everything and continuing on as planned. It's just totally awesome. I feel like a kid at Christmas. I'll admit, I feel a little crazy (as I did when I signed up for the Atlanta Half Marathon this evening). But I'm having fun, so what does it matter, right?

Anyways, longer post than I hope to have. Should be getting to bed on time this week.
